Loud Music Connected To Alcohol Consumption?
Dec 20, 2011- So you grab your friends for a night out on the town and you are pumped to watch your favorite band belt out their hits at a sold out concert.  Ever wonder why you don’t think twice in pounding back a few extra beers or highballs while you are all rocking it out?

In a recent article from The Press Association, alcohol actually goes down smooth and tastes sweeter when loud music is playing and all the noise throws off your senses on how much of the bubbly you’ve actually consumed.

Psychologist Dr. Lorenzo Stafford at the University of Portsmouth did a study on why alcohol is sweeter in environments with loud music and he said of his findings:

“The study found that sweetness perception of alcohol was significantly higher in the music compared to control and other distracting conditions, which is a novel finding and to our knowledge, not seen previously. This is an interesting finding as we might have expected the music to exert a more distracting effect on taste judgment. It appears that our primary sense of taste is somewhat immune to very distracting conditions, but is indeed influenced by music alone. Although individuals might well expect to consume more alcohol in club type environments anyway, it is important they understand how environment can potentially influence over-consumption and act accordingly.”

I know what you are thinking you now have a great reason when you see your next concert why you can stagger away loaded.  Shame on you! –By Shannon Edwards.
