A Disappointing Return for Sade
REVIEW - Sade – Soldier of Love
June 16, 2010 – There’s always been an understated value to everything that Sade does and sameness to her entire repertoire. That quality of old wine has served the singer/band well… until now. Unlike Norah Jones who has, at least, tried to mix-up-the-pot, Sade really needs to stop wearing the same dress to every party. MORE

The Beatles Are Not Coming Back
July 17, 2011 – I love Beatles rumors, the’re usually as juicy as JFK conspiracy theories and most are wishful thinking at best. The latest has Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr joining forces with both of John Lennon’s sons Julian and Sean and Dhani Harrison, George’s boy. The good news is this could actually happen but, as some people are reporting, it’s not a Beatles reunion as long as John and George remain dead.

The whole thing is circulating around the opening ceremony for next year’s Summer Olympics in London. “I hear there’s a rumour that I might be involved,” says McCartney this week, “I hear they’re planning this sort of music.”

The Sun newspaper in England has an inside source who said, “The organizers want the music legend to appear alongside other big British acts. And they also want Ringo on stage as well to make it extra special.”

“The Beatles are loved all over the world so it’s a no-brainer that they should be represented at the Olympics,” the source said. – by John Beaudin

Seinfeld Ended Show With a Little Help From The Beatles
May 10, 2011 – Always leave them wanting more. That’s what Jerry Seinfeld decided to do with his popular sitcom, which lasted 9 years. Interestingly the Beatles, according to Seinfeld, also had the same life-span. He told Tom Papa on SiriusXM, "The Beatles ended too soon for me, and it was also nine years," said Seinfeld. "That hunger for The Beatles has lasted my whole life. Whenever a Beatles song comes on the radio I reach for the volume and turn it up, because I still haven't gotten enough of them. That was really how I made the decision."

Seinfeld told Papa that Mark Knopfler was also an inspiration, "Somebody said to me, that's what makes Mark Knopfler such an amazing guitarist. He doesn't play quite as much as you want him to. You know, you just want him to play more, and he doesn't. You know? And that's what makes you love it." – by John Beaudin

Paul McCartney Gets His Girl! Set to Marry Socialite Nancy Shevell
May 7, 2011 – No one deserves a nice girl more than Paul McCartney. The ex Beatle is getting married to socialite Nancy Shevell. It’s almost like she actually loves Paul for Paul, not his money!

McCartney has dated Shevell for the last four years. The pair went off on a scenic road trip across the famous Route 66 in August of 2008.

Paul’s publicist Stuart Bell confirmed the engagement saying,  "We're all thrilled for him."

Shevell is 51 and McCartney is 68. The pair were first spotted together in Long Island's Hamptons area in late 2007. Congrats Paul!  MORE

Paul McCartney Set to Release Rare First Non-Beatles Project
May 1, 2011 – Things are not always what they seem. Most people accept that Paul McCartney’s first solo album was “McCartney” released on April 17, 1970. Actually, there was a little known soundtrack that the Beatle worked on with the band producer George Martin. It was for the 1966 film “The Family Way” which is about to get an official re-release on July 26th.

The soundtrack was originally billed as The George Martin Orchestra when released in 1967 but McCartney sings and plays bass and piano on 13 tracks – it’s basically all him and an orchestra. It did get a CD release in 1996 but had new material from Canadian guitarist Carl Aubut. This new re-release will be a polished up original of what first saw the light of day in 67.

The soundtrack includes 13 original McCartney tunes.

Beatles Producer George Martin Shocked That Lennon Wanted to Re-Record Everything
April 26, 2011 – Here is some shocking news. John Lennon didn’t seem pleased with Beatles producer George Martin and wanted to re-record everything. The famous producer says he was shocked, as well, by the news. Interestingly, it was Martin who gave the band their break after everyone else refused the band.

Martin told the Independent: “I said to John, ‘I can’t believe that. Think of all we’ve done, and you want to re-record everything?’ He said, ‘Yeah, everything.’ And I said, ‘What about Strawberry Fields?’ He looked at me and said, ‘Especially Strawberry Fields.”

The producer continues, “I was very disappointed with that. If he felt that way about it, he should have recorded the bloody thing himself.”

Martin, much like McCartney has been quoted, does not look at the Beatles like we all do, “I recognize now, looking back, there was quite a dividing line then. But the Beatles aren’t the Beatles to me the way they are to someone in the street. They’re four people I knew very well, and two of them are still living, so it’s not the big icon everybody talks about.”

The 85-year-old producer said,  “They’re the biggest thing ever. I don’t want to be any more famous than I am. Would you like to be Paul McCartney? I wouldn’t. That’s the last thing I’d like.”

He did tell the Independent that he does not like to choose his favorite tunes but if he had to, “If it’s Paul I’ll say Here There and Everywhere. If it’s John, Strawberry Fields.”

In the beginning when Beatles manager Brian Epstein brought Martin a tape of the Beatles he thought they were "rather unpromising", but liked the sound of Lennon and McCartney's vocals. – by John Beaudin

Beatles Dominate iTunes Top 200 Lists
November 18, 2010 – More than a quarter of the itunes TOP 200 is being occupied by The Beatles now that Apple and iTunes are playing nice with each other.

As of today 55 tunes on the chart are from the Fab Four with “Here Comes the Sun” charting the highest at #19.

Also all 13 Beatles CD's are charting on the albums list. Abbey Road (#5), Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (#9), and The Beatles 1967-1970 -The Blue Album (#10) are doing the best.

"We're really excited to bring the Beatles' music to iTunes," said Paul McCartney, "It's nice to see the songs we originally released on vinyl receive as much love in the digital world as they did the first time around." - by John Beaudin

Paul McCartney Digs Kings of Leon
November 1, 2010 – It's not uncommon for old rock stars to mumble about the 'good old days,' and  trash whatever heir apparent that gets in their way but Paul McCartney says he's diggin' the new bands on the scene.

The 68 year old former Beatle told Britain’s The Sun, “I think there’s a lot of great music around, I really do,” he said. “You get someone going, ‘Oh, it’s not like it was in my day!’ I say, ‘No, it’s different. It isn’t like it was in your day. And actually some of it is better.’”

Sir Paul added, “I like Kings of Leon, I think they’re really cool, I like Plan B, he’s good. He has really got it, you know, a good singer, man.”

McCartney has just released a deluxe version of his classic album “Band on the Run.” The original cover featured celebrities like Christopher Lee and James Coburn. The sun asked Paul who he'd feature on the cover if the album was released brand new today, He said, “Tom [Meighan] from Kasabian. Then next to him Beyonce Knowles, looking a bit sort of scared, Then we’d have to get Bob Dylan and Neil Young. We could have Ricky Gervais. I need a sportsman - Usain Bolt? I’d have to have Barack Obama, too. I’d give him a ring.” - by John Beaudin

Paul McCartney’s Daughter Controls his Touring
May 26, 2010 – It sure sounds like Paul McCartney is a responsible dad. The former Beatle say he never tours when it’s his turn to look after his daughter Beatrice – his child with ex-wife Heather Mills.

“What happens is, I don’t work when I have my little one,” says McCartney.  “I’m actually on the road very much half the time. So when I do tour, I’m kind of hungry, and the concerts are usually quite choice – it’s Hyde Park, or it’s the Isle of Wight, or it’s Coachella.”

'The thing is, when I’m on tour, it’s quite visible and people say, 'God you’re so busy.’ I’m actually not. Not compared to how The Beatles used to tour.'

The singer’s life with Mills was marred by drama and gossip but he’s in a much better space now and with a new lady American heiress Nancy Shevell. More

Paul and Ringo Reunite to Introduce “Beatles – Rock Band”
June 2, 2009 - Microsoft's Electronic Entertainment Expo in southern California was invaded by The Beatles yesterday, well, at least Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. The two surviving Beatles along with John Lennon and George Harrison’s widows, Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison unveiled the new Rock Band video game inspired by the Fab Four.

"Whoever thought we'd end up as androids?" joked McCartney as he got up on stage with Starr.

"The Beatles: Rock Band," which will be released on September 9, will differ from other versions of the game, in that it will feature three-part harmonies and replicas of the original band’s instruments.

Forty five Beatles songs will be included in the video game. – By John Beaudin

John Lennon’s Bloody Clothes On Display
May 12. 2009 – Everyone deals with death in their own personal way. Sure, you can read Elisabeth Kubler-Ross’ “On Death and Dying” a thousand times but when the dust settles we all do it in our own way.

When we all lost John Lennon on December 8, 1980 a collective sense of mourning was created, a worldwide wake not experienced, maybe, since the death of John F. Kennedy in 1963 but I think it’s safe to say that the apex of that deep sadness lived in John’s infamous wife Yoko Ono.

This week Ono revisited that day when Mark David Chapman shot Lennon four times in the back via a new exhibition in New York. It features guitars belonging to the late Beatle, handwritten lyrics, a pair of his trademark wire-rimmed glasses and a truckload of other Lennon memorabilia. The thing that’s getting all the attention however is a paper bag containing the bloody clothes from the night he was shot dead. Ono received the items from the medical examiner shortly after Lennon’s death. She feels that little bag of clothes will show the effects of gun violence. More

Get Ready for ‘The Beatles: Rock Band’     Bookmark and Share
March 5, 2009 – Sure, Rock Band is fun now but the Fab Four are coming to town. The Beatles will go digital via ‘The Beatles: Rock Band’ on Sept. 9 in 3 forms, Xbox 360, Playstation 2 and Wii.

MTV Games and Apple Corps Ltd said that Beatles/Game fans will also get “exclusive content” whoever pre-orders the game. You will also get a real Beatles personal touch with instruments modeled after those played by Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. Don’t worry your current Rock Band instruments will still work with this new game.

Price tag for the game only will be $59.99 and the Limited Edition Premium Bundle will cost $249.99.

As for what music? Paul McCartney recently told Entertainment Weekly "It will feature different periods of the band -- you get early days, Liverpool, then psychedelic, and on from there. It's very cool. And I like the idea that the game introduces kids to music, you know?"

George Harrison’s son, Giles Martin, son of  Beatles producer George Martin, will be the music producer for the Beatles: Rock Band.

Unreleased Beatles Revolution 1 is Now Online
Feb. 23, 2009 – It was just a matter of time before the rare Beatles Revolution 1 ended up online. It might not be the Holy Grail as some have called it but this is one cool lost treasure.

This version of Revolution was take 20 (originally called take 18) and starts with John Lennon saying, "Take your knickers off and let's go.” Revolution was the first track recorded for the ‘White Album’ on May 30, 1968.

The track is 10 minutes and 46 seconds and for the most part sounds like an improvised version of what would eventually appear on the album including Yoko Ono’s famous line “You become naked” at the end plus Beatles engineer Geoff Emerick saying “Take two.” Interestingly Emeric quit working with the Beatles in the middle of the session because he got sick of the fab –four fighting with each other.

Some people are questioning its authenticity however. With so many Beatles sound-a-likes out there packing loads of technology a forgery could be made but we have it and this truly sounds like the real band.

This “take 20”  has no horns like the released version and there is recurring high-pitched wailing feedback sounds that is not on the album and halfway through the band sings long “doo-wop” chorus. Listen to the rare track here. – by John Beaudin
