REVIEW: Colbie Caillat – All of You - Universal Republic

A Disappointing Return for Sade
REVIEW - Sade – Soldier of Love
June 16, 2010 – There’s always been an understated value to everything that Sade does and sameness to her entire repertoire. That quality of old wine has served the singer/band well… until now. Unlike Norah Jones who has, at least, tried to mix-up-the-pot, Sade really needs to stop wearing the same dress to every party. MORE

Elton John Tells Billy Joel To Get Rehab
February 2, 2011 – Not many artists have been through the ringer as much as Elton John. He has displayed an almost “nine lives” endurance after battling mediocre album sales but most importantly rough roads with substance abuse in the eighties. Having conquered it all John is now trying out some tough love on former touring buddy Billy Joel.

Elton told Rolling Stone magazine,  "He's going to hate me for this, but every time he goes to rehab they've been light, When I went to rehab, I had to clean the floors. He goes to rehab where they have TVs. I love you, Billy, and this is tough love. Billy, you have your demons and you're not going to get rid of them at rehab light. You've got to be serious. People adore you, they love you and respect you. You should be able to do something better than what you're doing now."

The pair has toured together for years via their “Face to Face” tours. Elton goes on to say that many of those shows were cancelled because of Joel's alcoholism. - by John Beaudin

Where's My Teeth: Billy Joel Splits from Wife Katie Lee – Are You Really Surprised?
June 20, 2009 – If there ever was a mismatched pair, physically and intellectually, it was Billy Joel and his young wife Katie Lee. Now comes word of the inevitable, the couple are splitting up.

Their Oprah interview a few years ago was impossible to watch in a “Stepford Wives” creepy kind of way. Billy’s young little prize made Mary Hart’s perkiness seem positively dull. Here was Billy Joel, a music superstar, who had a reputation for telling it like it is, he never suffered fools and he was married to someone more annoying than Celine Dion on a good day. What gives? To make things worse in front of millions of viewers Katie tried to make us believe that she never knew who Billy Joel was or heard any of his songs before they met. Either way she came off like an idiot with that statement. Was she culturally inept? Remember Joel has the 6th biggest selling album of all time, or was Katie just out-right lying and digging for gold and fame. The latter is the theme of most of the internet chat rooms today. It is reported however that the couple had set up a pre-nuptial agreement.

The whole thing has been a mess from the start, Joel is 60 and Katie Lee is only 27. What was a gorgeous young thing like that doing with a guy who looked like a Buick? Their bond had that “Your dad’s on top of you” theme running all the way through it. Can you imagine being a fly on the wall when these two tried to have a conversation? Poor Billy went into this relationship with one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel! As Joseph Collins once said, “The chief reason why marriage is rarely a success is that it is contracted while the partners are insane.” Billy was enveloped by lust and Katie liked how her husband’s fat wallet made him look like SpongeBob SquarePants. Drummer Liberty DeVitto Files Lawsuit Against Billy Joel     Bookmark and Share
May 25, 2009 – In the seventies there were a handful of unknown heroes behind drum kits. I’m not talking the guys who got their props like Keith Moon or John Bonham but unsung heroes who never became household names. Guys like Nigel Olson who helped shape most of Elton John’s biggest hits or the late Jeff Porcaro of Toto who is still regarded as on of the best session drummers of all time.

Liberty DeVitto is another “Behind the Scenes” drummer who, never got his due and it turns out maybe he never got his money either.

DeVitto is suing his old boss, Billy Joel. This was the guy playing drums on every Joel hit from 1975 to 2005. Were talking from “Turnstiles” until “Storm Front” and of course he toured with Joel after the albums stopped.

The drummer claims that Joel hasn’t paid him royalties in years and has filed a lawsuit in Manhattan's state Supreme Court demanding Joel to pay up. DeVitto’s lawyers didn’t specify how much money was owed but that could be determined after an audit of Joel’s sales. More

Billy Joel Itching to Tour Again With Elton John
Oct. 29, 2008 – Billy Joel had this great idea for special shows, ‘Master Classes’ a few years ago. He would talk as much as sing. The concert series which are widely available via bootlegs had Joel answering any question the audience threw at him. He did his first Master Class show in years last night at the Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square. At the charity event he talked about the differences between Beethoven and Mozart, did impressions of Robert Plant, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and even Chris Rock. He also said that he and Elton John would soon tour again. The duos famous ‘Face to Face” tours were hugely successful. Imagine both on one stage plus the pair performing each others songs. We saw them in Vancouver years ago – amazing.

Billy Joel confirms rumours he'll tour with Elton John again. Though the pair has not toured together since 2002, Joel says the live spectacle will come back in 2009. No specific dates have been released. – by John Beaudin

Billy Joel Working with Marc Anthony?
June 3, 2008 - My first thought was, "What the hell is Billy Joel Thinking?” Word comes out today that fabulous Piano Man is working on some tunes with, of all people, Marc Anthony. Isn't he the guy the looks like he's been dead for 3 days? No, seriously he looks like he hasn’t eaten a good meal in months. He may look gaunt but he's sure been a busy bee - the Spanish singer is actually working on 3 albums to be released simultaneously at the end of the year. The projects are a new tropical album, a Spanish ballad album and an English-language pop album, that's the one with Joel. It will also feature Babyface. Maybe Anthony will get opportunities to eat on his “Together” tour starting on July 26 in Los Angeles. - By John Beaudin
