A Disappointing Return for Sade
REVIEW - Sade – Soldier of Love
June 16, 2010 – There’s always been an understated value to everything that Sade does and sameness to her entire repertoire. That quality of old wine has served the singer/band well… until now. Unlike Norah Jones who has, at least, tried to mix-up-the-pot, Sade really needs to stop wearing the same dress to every party. MORE

Springsteen to Release "Wrecking Ball" in March
Jan 24, 2012 - Bruce Springsteen is full speed ahead with his new album due out in March. “Wrecking Ball” will be his 17th studio album and is produced by heavy hitter Ron Aniello (Patti Scialfa, Jars of Clay) and talent thrown in from Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machines) and members of the E Street Band.

“The lyrics tell a story you can't hear anywhere else and the music is his most innovative of recent years,” Springsteen manager Jon Landau said in a statement, via Rolling Stone. “The writing is some of the best of his career and both veteran fans and those who are new to Bruce will find much to love on Wrecking Ball.”

The album’s title comes from a debut track that Springsteen and the E Street Band played at Giants Stadium in 2009. The song “Land of Hope and Dreams” is another single that will resurface on the new album, a song that was first performed at their 1999 reunion tour. Sources say a world tour looks possible for the Boss and the E Streeters in March as well. Stay tuned!  - by Shannon Edwards

Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band Back in 2012
November 22, 2011 - If you click on the official website of Springsteen you will see that it indeed confirms a new album and tour are in the works for 2012.

Excited European fans can see Springsteen and The E Street Band from the middle of May until the end of July and the U.S. and world tour dates are still in the making.

The tour will be E Street’s first in three years and without the incredible presence of Clarence Clemons, who died last June from a stroke at age 69. There has been no word on who is going to fit in his shoes. Also, original keyboardist Danny Federici died in 2008 at age 58 from melanoma.

As for the new album? Springsteen says the band is “incredibly excited” for the new year and the music for the new album is “almost done” untitled, and with no release date yet determined.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame To Celebrate 25th Anniversary with Bruce Springsteen, U2, Simon and Garfunkle and More
July 23, 2009 – The body of work that is Rock and Roll encompasses so many actual genres. The Blues, Soul, Pop, Rock, Metal and the list goes on. Appropriately the 25th anniversary of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will feature a melting pot of everything under the sun including Bruce Springsteen, U2, Simon & Garfunkle, Eric Clapton, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder and Metallica.

The foundation will celebrate with two shows (October 29 and 30) at New York City's Madison Square Garden. This is one night when Metal will find a nice home with soul and it’ll all make sense. The Hall promises some interesting pairings including Crosby, Stills Nash & Friends and Simon and Garfunkle on stage with some surprising unlikely colleagues.

All proceeds from the shows will help raise money for a permanent endowment for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation and Museum. More

Bruce Springsteen Set to Rock Giant Stadium Goodbye     Bookmark and Share
May 25, 2009 – When a legendary building like Giant Stadium gets torn down, it’s a huge deal. No one knows that more than Bruce Springsteen. That’s why he and the E Street band want to bid the stadium goodbye with three shows at the New Jersey landmark.

Springsteen told a crowd last week the gigs would be on Sept. 30 and October 2 and 3. Tickets will go on sale on June 1st.

Chances are the special goodbye concerts will feature more diverse tunes from his catalogue including “Jungleland”, “Growing Up,” “Rosalita” and “I’m Going Down.” It’s been Springsteen’s aim to sweeten the pot a little on his tour to perform old concert favorites that haven’t seen the light of day for years.

Let’s Have a Good Old Fashioned Record Burning with Bruce Springsteen
Feb 6, 2009 – The latest Super Bowl shocker is that even Bruce Springsteen had Ashlee Simpson inspiration at this years Super Bowl half-time show. To be precise it was actually the E Street band who were recorded – Bruce sang live.

The shows producer, Hank Neuberger said "The Super Bowl performances are all on tape,"
He added, "There is no way you can set up a full band in five minutes and expect quality sound. The Super Bowl has been doing that for years with virtually all the bands."

What’s next, the game being taped? Since the big show last Sunday we found out that both Faith Hill and Jennifer Hudson had lip-synched their performances but the E Street band?

It also sounds like the Super Bowl folks are pulling a Yo Yo Ma saying, "There were too many variables keeping the instruments in tune while playing outside in cold weather," he says. "You can't control the environment, so the smart decision is to record the performance and play along with it.” What about the variables of a football game? Someone could get a bruise, someone’s feeling could get hurt. Give me a freakin' break, maybe we should tape the whole damn thing. That way the players could also watch the game.

The music business is built on “Devil May Care” blunders, the “Live” chance that a boob will fall out, oh, wait, that did happen at the Super Bowl but was probably planned too.

It's not fraudulent; it's the opposite of fraud," Neuberger said. "It's not like Milli Vanilli. Yes it is. – by John Beaudin

Bruce Springsteen Inspired by Kiss? Pass the Makeup
Feb. 5, 2009 – In what dimension does Bruce Springsteen steal a tune from Kiss. Even on the worse acid trip proceeded by snorting Rod Blagojevich’s rotting brain would have better results. Could Springsteen have actually ripped off Kiss? Is it illegal to even mention both in the same breath?

A YouTube internet poster named kstreetshuffle did a little investigation on Springsteen’s new tune ‘Outlaw Pete,’ comparing it to Kiss’ 1979 disco hit ‘I Was Made For Loving You.’ You know what? They actually sound a little bit a like. Though not in the same league as the Joe Satriani/Coldplay dispute where both songs sound exactly the same, the Kiss situation leads one to think that maybe Springsteen unconsciously picked up some Kiss inspiration. The similarity seemed minor to all of us at the Rock History Book office however.

Kstreetshuffle even did a remix of both songs and you judge for yourself. Kiss Army members are giving their painted heroes the win on this one, trying to make it ok to hate Springsteen – good luck with that. Check out the video below. – by John Beaudin

Wal-Mart Gets Exclusive on Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Best of’ Set
Dec. 28, 2008 – Even though another Bruce Sprinsteen ‘Greatest Hits’ seems somewhat anti-climactic, Wal-Mart wants it. The huge retailer will get an exclusive to sell Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band's "Greatest Hits," on January 13, just two weeks before the bands new album ‘Working on a Dream.’

Strictly a group effort, the new set leaves out any of Springsteen’s solo work and sticks to the classics like ‘Glory Days,’ ‘Dancing in the Dark,’ ‘Hungry Heart’ and ‘Born To Run.’

Bruce Springsteen’s New Album To Help Bring in 2009
Nov. 18, 2008 – Bruce Springsteen doesn’t plan on playing Santa Claus this year. His new album will only be ready Jan. 27, 2009. ‘Working on a Dream’ will be an E Street band project. We’ve had a sneak peak of two songs so far. The title track was played during NBC's NFL halftime show two nights ago and Springsteen gave us a free download of ‘Jersey Devil’ (a bonus track) on Halloween.

Brendan O'Brien produced the new album as he did with 2007’s ‘Magic.’ O’Brien had to do some juggling to bring the E Street band into the studio during tour breaks. All the tunes on ‘Working on a Dream’ were written quick, he says.

There is also a second bonus track, ‘The Wrestler’ from the much buzzed-about Mickey Rourke film of the same name.

Springsteen Rocks 80,000 for Obama
Nov. 3, 2008 – It was like a religious experience. Bruce Springsteen, introducing Barack Obama and his family in front of 80,000 in Cleveland, Ohio last night. In spite of the rain, everyone was on the same page. "So I don't know about you, but I want my country back, I want my dream back, I want my America back," said Springsteen. The solo concert, one of the most heartfelt from a long career of phenomenal shows brought some fans to tears during his song ‘The Rising’ about the Sept. 11 attacks. Springsteen said, "Our social contract has been shredded. We're going to need all the angels we can get."

Obama had his own kind words for the performer, "A handful of people who enter into your lives through their music and tell the American people's story, Bruce Springsteen is one of those people,"

The theme of taking back the country was huge as Springsteen lead the crowd in a sing-a-long of Woody Guthrie's folk classic ‘This Land is Your Land.’

Looking up at the cloudy skies a stoic Obama said, “Sunshine is on the way. We just got two more days of these clouds.” – by John Beaudin

Mariah Carey Wants to Be a Cookie and Springsteen Closes Shop for Halloween
Oct. 31, 2008 – Mariah Carey says though she has many options for tonight, she will probably dress like a chocolate chip cookie (insert obvious dirty X-rated joke here.) What’s even scarier is that she’s still married to Nick Cannon. Wasn’t this union supposed to last three weeks? Carey says her husband came up with this idea, "Nick made this up and he was only kidding, but I liked it. He would be a milk carton with a 'missing' sign over his head." Are you feeling as nauseous as I am right now?

Bruce Springsteen isn’t going to spread the joy this Halloween. The superstar wants to celebrate in private this year and has decided to close the doors to his New Jersey mansion. Each year he and wife Patti Scialfa offer up an elaborate Halloween display but according to his web site safety concerns have forced him to shut it down. Maybe they couldn't get their cookie costumes done in time. – by John Beaudin

Bruce Springsteen Draws Huge Crowds For Obama
Oct. 7, 2008 – An artist like Bruce Springsteen is not known for getting behind too many political figures but in no uncertain terms he spoke clearly of his support for Barrack Obama this past weekend. Kicking off a three day Vote for Change’ mini tour, Springsteen drew over 50, 000 at the Ben Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia. Springsteen played seven songs acoustically and over 21, 000 new voters registered.

He started the set by saying, “I’m not Barack Obama, but I’ll do my best.” The boss wowed the crowd and said, “I’ve spent most of my creative life measuring the distance between that American promise and American reality. The distance between that promise and that reality has never been greater or more painful. I believe Senator Obama has taken the measure of that distance in his own life and in his work. I believe as president, he would work to restore that promise to so many of our fellow citizens who have justifiably lost faith in its meaning.”
– by George King

Set List:
“The Promised Land”
“The Ghost of Tom Joad”
“Thunder Road”
“No Surrender”
“Does This Bus Stop at 82nd Street?”
Speech
“The Rising”
“This Land Is Your Land”

Bruce Springsteen Goes the Extra mile For Barack Obama
Oct. 3, 2008 – Bruce Springsteen announced this week his special benefit show to support Barack Obama on Oct. 16, now he wants to do more. The boss is doing 3 acoustic sets at Obama/voter registration rallies, just in time for the Oct 6 deadline for voter registration. The first gig is tomorrow (Oct 4) in Philadelphia, followed by Ohio State campus in Columbus and another on Monday at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti Mich.  It’s a very important time for Obama to make sure his younger voters are eligible to vote, an NBC pole released earlier this week says the Democratic candidate has a huge lead among new voters. The survey shows Obama would clinch 61% and McCain only 30%. 9% were undecided. Alicia Keys and Jennifer Hudson are just two others in along list of celebrities who have participated in another Democratic campaign, ‘Vote for Change.’ – by John Beaudin
