Chris Cornell: Radio Would Reject Jimi Hendrix Now “Think about Jimi Hendrix’s Smash Hits. This is an album by Jimi Hendrix and it’s even called Smash Hits,” he said. “But if it came out today it wouldn’t be played on the radio. That’s weird to me. It’s odd that an album that came out in 1967 would be too strange for radio play in 2011.” Cornell had this to say about the Beatles. “Even at age nine, they had a big impression on me, and later on my writing, without me realizing it,” he said. “The Beatles did whatever they wanted. This is a band that did ‘Helter Skelter,’ ‘Yesterday’ and ‘Penny Lane.’ No one said, ‘Hey, they can’t do that!’” – by John Beaudin

Chris Cornell Talks About Why Some Fans Hate his New Album
The CD ‘Scream,’ his first Pop effort, is a huge departure from his angst ridden Soundgarden days and coupled with the fact that Timbalan made it a little bouncy just ads to the horror. Cornell says “older American fans don’t like it because they are typically my core fans that really supported me in Soundgarden and really loved that band, To them that’s kind of who I am, I’m that guy in that band, and I’m that guy who wrote those songs.” In his interview with Alternative Addiction Cornell says “As a song writer and creative person, I have to do what makes me happy. That changes, it goes into different worlds, sometimes it’s going to be in the world that those core fans of my earlier period love, and sometimes it won’t.” His first solo album in 1998 was also a departure from Soundgarden but his new ‘Scream’ project, at times doesn’t even sound like him. Could it be Timbaland’s fault? Cornell knew he was taking a chance with the famous producer but he thought, “well why not? That’s sort of why I am a solo artist, so I can do anything I want, when I want. That was really all the thought that went into it.” |

Chris Cornell Says He’s Not Joining Led Zeppelin....Today Not too long ago the internet was nuts with rumours that former Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman Chris Cornell was the new guy. Sounds nuts to him though, "I have not been approached so far to fill in for Robert Plant on the upcoming Zeppelin tour, but that isn't to say I won't be," He joked with MTV. "I've heard that from about 200 people now, and it might be one of those situations where it's just an online rumour or it might be true. But if you see anyone from Led Zeppelin around, let me know. I think I should actually fill in for Jimmy Page on the Robert Plant/ Alison Krauss tour." Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider actually leaked the most possible rumour so far about Myles Kennedy. He said Plant was told, "We're all rehearsed, we're ready to go. Here's a gazillion dollars on the table. If you don't do it, we're going out with this kid [Myles Kennedy].' " Zeppelin’s, John Paul Jones told the BBC, "There's no point in just finding another Robert. You could get that out of a tribute band, but we don't want to be our own tribute band. There would be a record and a tour, but everyone has to be onboard." Cornell’s next album will be produced, by of all people, Timbaland and he warns that some fans might be a little surprised by his new sound. – by John Beaudin |
