Chuck Mangione Still Loves Playing ‘Feels so Good’
Oct. 7, 2008 – Having a signature song that becomes an anthem for a generation or even a genre is sometimes hard to get past. Chuck Mangione says, why even try. The Flugel horn master hit the charts in 1977 with one of the most recognizable instrumentals of all time with ‘Feels so Good.’ Thirty years later his career is still driven by the tune and he’s totally ok with it, "It is not a bother at all," says Mangione who’s now 67, "I consider it a great form of flattery." The song still sounds great on radio today and let’s also give credit to guitarist Grant Geissman with that unmistakable guitar solo in the classic.

Interestingly, Mangione was already a music veteran, with tons of experience when the tune first hit the charts. He had already played with Maynard Ferguson, Woody Herman and Art Blakey.

Though Mangione has not recorded an album since 2003, he’s carved out another career as one of the voices of ‘King of the Hill. In it he plays himself as a spokesman for Mega Lo Mart.

Meanwhile, Mangione says he’ll continue touring and sending out that softer message of the flugelhorn. ‘Feels so Good’ will continue to get airplay on Gold, AC and Smooth Jazz stations and it’s imprint will just keep growing. In fact in recent year’s high school or college bands have embraced the tune as a standard. – by John Beaudin - story from Smooth Jazz
