Jack Bruce Received Death Threats After Dissing Led Zeppelin
July 29, 2009 – Jack Bruce has found out the hard way that it’s usually not a good idea to talk-crap on the biggest Rock band of all time. Last year, after the Classic Rock Awards he told a reporter that Zeppelin was “lame.” As a result he received death threats.

“Everybody talks about Led Zeppelin. They did one f’kin gig – one f’kin lame gig – while Cream did weeks of gigs.” He said, “Proper gigs, not just a lame gig like Zeppelin did, with all the vocal keys lowered and everything.

“F’k off, Zeppelin, you’re crap. You’ve always been crap and you’ll never be anything else. Cream is ten times the band Led Zeppelin is.”

Bruce said he was just fooling around, yeah right. Does it sound like he was fooling around?

This week Bruce added, “It was just a bit of fun and it was blown out of all proportion.

We always used to have a pop at other bands in the old days, and that was all it was.

Some Led Zeppelin fans were really angry. I had a few death threats – they’re not likely to find me though!”

No Reunion for Cream According to Ginger Baker
Nov. 24, 2008 – Ginger Baker seems to be saying Jack Bruce is a dork without really saying it and that spells trouble for another Cream Reunion. The famous drummer got back together with Bruce and Eric Clapton in 2005 for the first time in 12 years for some gigs in New York and London but things didn’t go well.

Baker says, "I'd refused to do it first of all. It was Eric who phoned me up and convinced me. The reason I didn't want to do it was because of what happened in New York in 1968 when the magic was destroyed. The reason why we broke up in the first place re-emerged on stage at Madison Square."

Baker and Bruce are not close to say the least, "You'll notice I'm talking about Eric in a nice way, but there was another person in the group. It wasn't just a problem with the volume of the bass guitar, it was the problem of being humiliated in front of 20,000 people,” says Baker.

"Jack Bruce has apologized many times since, but he's been doing that to me ever since I first played with him. He gets tearful and says 'I love you man' but the volume thing has damaged my hearing to this day. I just cannot play with other people playing too loud on stage. It's too painful."

He says Cream is done, no more reunions, "No, we won't.” – By John Beaudin

Cream’s Jack Bruce Says Led Zeppelin is Crap
Nov 6, 2008 – In the “tell us what you really think” file, Jack Bruce is calling Led Zeppelin some harsh names. While at the Classic Rock Awards on Nov. 3 the famous Cream bassist gave a thumbs down to Zeppelin, “Everybody talks about Led Zeppelin, and they played one fucking gig, one fucking lame gig, while Cream did weeks of gigs; proper gigs, not just a lame gig like Zeppelin did, with all the [vocal] keys lowered and everything. We played everything in the original keys. [Becoming animated]: Fuck off, Zeppelin, you’re crap. You’ve always been crap and you’ll never be anything else. The worst thing is that people believe the crap that they’re sold. Cream is 10 times the band that Led Zeppelin is." Ouch! Bruce was at the ceremony to pick up a prize for Creams classic ‘Disraeli Gears’ album.

The interviewer then comments that his review of Zep was rather sharp, to which Bruce responded, “What? You’re gonna compare Eric Clapton with that fucking Jimmy Page? Would you really compare that? Eric’s good and Jimmy’s crap. And with that I rest my case."

Yesterday morning however Bruce was back-peddling big time. He told Detroit’s JJ & Lynne Morning Show at 94.7 WCSX, "I was just having some fun with the press gallery really… being fairly tongue in cheek.” What is worse speaking your mind or back-peddling and looking pathetic?
Bruce added, "The thing about Zeppelin is obviously it's a little bit of jealousy on my part, or more than a little bit because the audience was created by Cream and Jimi Hendrix… this sort of very large audience… then Zeppelin came along and had a very easy ride in that way.”

Slowly during the interview though Bruce got back on his soapbox aiming directly at Zeppelin, "We (Cream) were the pioneers and pioneers don’t always get the recognition they deserve. On the other hand, let’s face it: Jimmy Page ain’t no Eric Clapton… no matter what anybody thinks.”

And one last insult, “The only decent guy… the one good guy in that band is dead… so what are you gonna do? The trouble is if you say anything about the establishment… In Britain you mustn’t criticize the Queen or Led Zeppelin.” – by John Beaudin
