A Disappointing Return for Sade
REVIEW - Sade – Soldier of Love
June 16, 2010 – There’s always been an understated value to everything that Sade does and sameness to her entire repertoire. That quality of old wine has served the singer/band well… until now. Unlike Norah Jones who has, at least, tried to mix-up-the-pot, Sade really needs to stop wearing the same dress to every party. MORE

April 30, 2011 – It was no surprise that Elton John would be at the Royal Wedding yesterday considering his friendship with Lady Diana (Will’s mom) and famous tune, “England’s Rose” dedicated to her.

The 64-year-old rocker can be seen here arriving at the ceremony with partner David Furnish at Westminster Abbey on Friday in London, England.

Elton and David also had front row seats for the big day.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5Live on his way out of the venue, John said: "It's not the Oscars."

Elton John Hasn’t Spoken to His Mother in Three Years
April 29, 2011 – There is one constant ingredient in most families – fighting. Elton John’s clan is no different. Turns out the superstar hasn’t spoken to his mother in three whole years and what it’s all about is a secret.

His 86-year-old widower mother, Sheila Farebrother, says her son has cut her out of his life "completely." Rumor has it that everything started with an argument with Elton’s partner, Canadian David Furnish.

Elton’s mom said, "He has cut me off completely. It happened three years ago this June. He has had nothing to do with me since then. I don't want to go into what caused it. It is a painful subject. My son cut me out of his life for good."

It’s important to note that the 64-year-old music legend is still supporting his mother financially.

When Farebrother spoke to The Sun in the UK she pointed out that she has no interest in meeting her son’s new adopted little boy saying "I have no particular interest really. You will have to ask them about that." – by John Beaudin

Elton John, Like Many Blind Men, Hates Kim Kardashian
February 5, 2011 – Elton John is known as a straight shooter. He says things that others would not dare except, maybe, Perez Hilton who is stupid and ignorant. Elton speaks sharply, often but it's hard not to listen. Now, it turns out, that Captain Fantastic hates Kim Kardashian. Glory! Hallelujah! I'm not alone.

Elton recently told W Magazine, “Who the fuck is Kim Kardashian? Some stupid, old tart from somewhere or other. Video killed music. Reality has killed talent. Can any X Factor people cut the mustard?”

The legendary singer also went after Cheryl Cole who has been constantly accused of lip-synching and not being a true singer, “It’s hard to tell Girls Aloud (Cole's girl group) from The Saturdays. And then there’s Cheryl Cole. Bands who fly in vocals — fuck off! I want to kill them. Go and see Take That or Westlife and how much of that is live? I know Gary Barlow can sing — that solves that one. I think they genuinely do sing their stuff, but 99% of the other fucking Herberts out there can’t sing a note.

British pop music like that is the worst, it’s just awful. It could have been made by anybody. All lip-synchers should be shot. Only drag queens are allowed to lip-sync.”

You tell them Elton! We are not blind, Cole and Kardashian are two of the most beautiful  woman in the world but would I want to know them if they looked like Joan Rivers? We all know the answer to that. - by John Beaudin

Elton John Tells Billy Joel To Get Rehab
February 2, 2011 – Not many artists have been through the ringer as much as Elton John. He has displayed an almost “nine lives” endurance after battling mediocre album sales but most importantly rough roads with substance abuse in the eighties. Having conquered it all John is now trying out some tough love on former touring buddy Billy Joel.

Elton told Rolling Stone magazine,  "He's going to hate me for this, but every time he goes to rehab they've been light, When I went to rehab, I had to clean the floors. He goes to rehab where they have TVs. I love you, Billy, and this is tough love. Billy, you have your demons and you're not going to get rid of them at rehab light. You've got to be serious. People adore you, they love you and respect you. You should be able to do something better than what you're doing now."

The pair has toured together for years via their “Face to Face” tours. Elton goes on to say that many of those shows were cancelled because of Joel's alcoholism. - by John Beaudin

Elton John Frustrated with Slow Movement in Gay Rights
January 24, 2011 – Elton John is not too happy with how gay rights is moving especially with  California's gay marriage ban.

The 63-year-old singer says, "In this country, we need more dialogue, We don't need any more stone throwing. We don't need any more vitriol. We need people to say, 'OK. I'm straight. You're gay. Let's get along. I'm Republican. You're Democratic. Let's work together.' I'm sick and tired of people being hateful to each other in this country."

Elton and his partner David Furnish adopted a baby boy on Christmas Day. That has given him more joy in life but California's Proposition 8 banning gay marriage makes him angrier by the day, "Everyone is entitled to have their own beliefs and their own spirituality," said the rocker. "The big difference is that the dogma of the church can be so hateful and divisive. It's stuck in the stone age. We don't live in the stone age anymore. The church is losing people left, right and center because people are fed up with the rhetoric that they're giving them." - by John Beaudin

REVIEW - Elton John & Leon Russell – The Union – Decca Records
October 27, 2010 – This project started after Elton John just happened to mention his chief influences on “Spectacle,” a TV program hosted by Elvis Costello and produced by him and partner David Furnish. “I talked about three singer/songwriters that I thought had been forgotten; says John, “Leon Russell was one of them. The other two were Laura Nyro and David Ackles, who have both passed away.” This was 2008, flash forward one year later, by then Furnish had downloaded the music of this special group of legends. While on safari in South Africa, of all places, Elton was completely taken off-guard yet pleasantly surprised to hear Russell’s “Retrospective” coming from Furnish’s ipod and he cried. In fact, Elton cried uncontrollably. I call these “musical JFK moments” – we always remember where we were when they happened and they change us. The moment certainly rejigged Elton John and this album served as a diary for that muse.

Elton was heavily influenced by Russell, the pair knew each other after sharing gigs in the early seventies, but their relationship had been severed by 37 years of different roads and decisions. Long story short, Elton decided to call Russell followed by producer T Bone Burnett?’ Elton’s long-awaited thank you to Russell was going to finally happen.

Before I start foaming at the mush over “The Union” I'd be remiss not to mention that this project is like fine wine so the young ones probably won’t get it. You can’t jump to the last scene of “Gone with the Wind” and expect to feel a damn thing. Having an appreciation for the history and the music makes a difference. READ MORE
