A Disappointing Return for Sade
REVIEW - Sade – Soldier of Love
June 16, 2010 – There’s always been an understated value to everything that Sade does and sameness to her entire repertoire. That quality of old wine has served the singer/band well… until now. Unlike Norah Jones who has, at least, tried to mix-up-the-pot, Sade really needs to stop wearing the same dress to every party. MORE

Follow the Foo Fighters From the Beginning On New DVD
May 5, 2011 – If you missed the new Foo Fighters movie released in theatres do not fret because the DVD version will feature lots more goodies. “Back and Forth” which was directed by Academy winner James Moll will hit iTunes on June 7 and DVD/Blu-Ray on June 14. Expect 35 minutes of bonus footage.

The interesting thing about the film is the “fly-on-the-wall” view of the band as we watch Dave Grohl from the break-up of Nirvana to the earlier incarnation of the Foo Fighters. The film also concentrates on their new album “Wasting Light.”

The Foo Fighters are currently #1 in twelve countries. "Wasting Light," the bands seventh album, was released on April 12th and is produced by Butch Vig who was behind the controls of the groundbreaking Nirvana album "Nevermind" in 1991. – by John Beaudin

Foo Fighters Dave Grohl Reminds us That Glee Is Crap!
March 20, 2011 – You gotta hand it to Dave Grohl, he knows crap when he smells it. Here is what the leader of the Foo Fighters had to say about the TV show Glee:

“It’s every band’s right, you shouldn’t have to do fucking Glee. And then the guy who created Glee is so offended that we’re not, like, begging to be on his fucking show… fuck that guy for thinking anybody and everybody should want to do Glee. I watched 10 minutes. It’s not my thing. The Glee guy, what a fucking jerk. Slash was the first one. He wanted to do Guns ‘n’ Roses and Slash is like, ‘I hate fucking musicals. It’s worse than Grease.’ Then [Murphy's] like, ‘Well, of course he’d say that, he’s a washed up ol’ rock star, that’s what they fucking do.’ And then Kings of Leon say, ‘No, we don’t want to be on your show.’ And then he’s like, ‘Snotty little assholes…’ And it’s just like, Dude, maybe not everyone loves Glee. Me included.” – by John Beaudin

Foo Fighters Announce Release Date of New Album
February 2, 2011 – The Foo Fighters are set to release their new album in a bit over two months. Yesterday the band announced an April 12th release date for the yet untitled seventh album.

Fans also got a taste, albeit a tiny one, of the new CD via a 38-second instrumental snippet of the new tune “Bridge Burning.”

So far we do know that the 11-song-album is finished, produced by Butch Vig (he did Nirvana's famous “Nevermind” album) and features, like leader Dave Grohl, another ex-Nirvana member. Krist Novoselic.

On May 21st the Foo Fighters will co-headline, with Paul Simon, at the Hangout Music Festival in Alaska and they plan to play a handful of European Festivals this summer. - by John Beaudin

Expect Nirvana Reunion on Next Foo Fighters Album
October 28, 2010 - Kurt Cobain is still dead but the two other guys are getting back together. According to Dave Grohl the next Foo Fighters album will feature a Nirvana reunion, of sorts, with his former bandmate Krist Novoselic. Grohl told The pulse of Radio Novoselic will play bass on at least one track on the project that's due in 2011.

Interestingly, the new album is also being produced by Butch Vig who was behind the controls of Nirvana's legendary CD,“Nevermind.”

This will also be the heaviest album yet for Foo Fighters "Each song is full on,” says Grohl, “The whole record is full on. In the 14 songs, there's not one acoustic guitar, there's not even one in the house."

Grohl adds that the whole project is being recorded in his garage – old school, "This whole project has been really cool. I haven't made a record with Butch for 20 years."

There will also be a movie on the making of the album to be released next year as well.

Cobain died on April 5, 1994. The last Foo Fighters album from 2007, "Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace," was nominated for five Grammy Awards in 2008. They won “Best Rock Album” and “Best Hard Rock Performance (for "The Pretender"), and the CD won the Grammy for Album of the Year

Them Crooked Vultures Could Be Real-Deal Super-group thanks to Foo-Zeppelin Horsepower
August 13, 2009 – The term super-group has become so overused that you’re already rolling your eyes just reading this, right? A great super-group has to be greater than the sum of its parts. There is no choice in this matter. First off, it’s usually near impossible for someone to walk away from a legendary band and surpass that success. Expectations are usually too freakin’ high so it’s all in the chemistry.

John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin), Dave Grohl (Nirvana/Foo Fighters) and Josh Homme (Kyuss, Eagles of Death Metal and Queens of the Stone Age) each include a pedigree of having chops and being able to dance at the edge of any volcano. They’ve all done really well in Rock and Roll and lived the craziness. It’s interesting to note that these boys are also multi-instrumentalists. Jones is an amazing bass player but let’s remember he also gave keyboards (much to the chagrin of some die-hard fans) to the Zeppelin sound. Grohl is as good on drums as he is on guitar but they are both trumped by Homme. This guy can play everything, bass, drums keyboards and, like Grohl, can sing. With this super-group, yes I said it, everyone is talking about Grohl being back on the drum kit, like his old Nirvana days, but he can easily switch positions with Homme. This is no Zeppelin reunion but I’m excited. More

Is Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters a Control Freak?
Feb. 17, 2009 - Taylor Hawkins of the Foo Fighters seems to have had his challenges with leader Dave Grohl. It’s a band and there’s bound to be a little pissing.

Hawkins says, "He's a complete control freak, but he's the nicest control freak you ever meet in your life. He tells me what to do but we work off each other as well. He's a drummer first and foremost. He's become a great singer and songwriter but he's a drummer first. When we're working together on music, not only do you have one drummer's ideas but you have two of them coming from totally different places."

As for the Foo’s being on a break Hawkins says there are plans on a new album already,
"We've gotten together and minced ideas already, just basic ideas and we'll probably do that over the next year until we have a log of ideas. We'll take our time and let everybody else enjoy other things -- their families and stuff. I'd say maybe by summer we'll get in the studio and start getting serious about a record." – by Kari Graham

Foo Fighters and John Mayer Added For Grammy Nominations Concert

So far the bill includes Foo Fighters, John Mayer and B.B. King for the show at Nokia Theatre L.A. It will be broadcast on CBS. Hosts for the nominations show include Mariah Carey, LL Cool J and Taylor Swift.

Proceeds from the evening will go straight to the Grammy Museum in L.A.

Foo Fighters Dave Grohl to Guest on Prodigy Album
Nov. 10, 2008 – Dave Grohl is teaming up with Prodigy again. The Foo Fighters lead singer and guitarist will make a special appearance on Prodigy’s new ‘Invaders Must Die’ album to be released in 2009.

Prodigy songwriter and producer Liam Howlett says the union was quite easy, "Dave emailed us to see what we were up to and offered his services. It was really inspiring."

Howlett warns that the track featuring Grohl, ‘Run With the Wolves’ is pretty heavy stuff, "It's definitely the most venomous track on the album. Keith (Flint) really goes for it on lead vocals. It's wicked."

Foo Fighter toured with the harder edged dance band in 1997 on their ‘Fat of the Land’ tour.

Foo Fighters Release Another Live DVD
Oct. 21, 2008 – Foo Fighters might soon have their own room in the DVD store. The band has announced another live DVD, ‘Foo Fighters: Live at Wembley Stadium’ featuring 18 tunes recorded on their two sold out Wembley Stadium shows. The concerts (Friday and Saturday June 6&7) were huge events for the band, 165,000 tickets were sold, their biggest ever headline stand. The set includes tunes from all six Foo albums and features the current line-up of Dave Grohl (vocals/guitar), Taylor Hawkins (drums/vocals), Nate Mendel (bass) and Chris Shiflett (guitar). Guest appearances include co-founding Foo Fighters guitarist Pat Smear, Wallflowers keyboardist Rami Jaffee who has been a regular contributor, also violinist/cellist Jessy Greene and percussionist Drew Hester.

One of the highlights of the collection is the entire stadium singing along to ‘Best of you.” At one point Grohl yells, “How did this band get so fucking big?”

This, the bands sixth live DVD will be released on November 18th. It will also be available on Blue-ray. – by John Beaudin

Welcome to Dave Grohl Alley
Oct. 15, 2008 – He’s known as the nicest chronic-gum-chewing guy in Rock N’ Roll and now he’s getting a street named after him. Dave Grohl is being honored by his home town of Warren, Ohio as they switch Markey Alley to Dave Grohl Alley. It’s all part of a successful campaign orchestrated by Warren police sargeant Joe O'Grady and radio DJ Fast Freddie via a huge petition. City council did have concerns that name change would cost lots of money but it still passed unanimously. Duh, here’s a guys who was the drummer of one of the most trend setting bands in history of music, Nirvana and now continues to be very relevant with his own group, the Foo Fighters.

The city says the switch will come with a big celebration and they hope Grohl will attend. Do you think his waiver will ask for lots of Juicy Fruit? He grew up in Warren and still has lots of family there

Foo Fighters, Fighting Mad at John McCain
Oct. 9, 2008 - I finally know what Presidential hopeful, John McCain does in his spare time – He rocks to the Foo Fighters. Yeah right! The band says they’re not interested in having the aging politician as a fan and especially mad that he used their song ‘My Hero’ in McCain’s campaign. Jackson Browne has sued McCain over the same thing and Ann and Nancy Wilson were pissed when the Republicans used the Heart tune ‘Barracuda’ at a recent rally.

The problem lies in McCain not asking for permission to use the song, not that he would get it anyway. The Republicans are still trying to sort out the problem of using Browne’s ‘Running on Empty’ without asking.

The Foo Fighters released this statement, "It's frustrating and infuriating that someone who claims to speak for the American people would repeatedly show such little respect for creativity and intellectual property," the band says in a statement. "The saddest thing about this is that 'My Hero' was written as a celebration of the common man and his extraordinary potential. To have it appropriated without our knowledge and used in a manner that perverts the original sentiment of the lyric just tarnishes the song." In other words John McCain is no righteous dude.

Recently Foo Fighters leader Dave Grohl told BBC Radio 1 that the band was taking a long break and not to expect any new music in a while. He did promise that the band would come back with a new sense of purpose.   – by John Beaudin

Paul McCartney and Foo Fighters Dave Grohl Together!
May 30, 2008 - Can this get any better? On Sunday, Paul McCartney is set to play in his hometown at Liverpool FC's Anfield stadium. Sir Paul says playing to the folks that really know him is always special and Foo Fighters Dave Grohl will play a new tune with the famous Beatle. Remember we all loved John Lennon's primal screams that gave the Beatles a real edge but Paul was also a rocker and this could be the start of something bigger. These two guys will probably sound fantastic together. Stay tuned. - by John Beaudin
