James Taylor Supports Barack Obama
Oct. 20, 2008 – James Taylor says he wants to make it clear that he’s a firm supporter of Barack Obama. Like a host of musicians like Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen and Alicia Keys, Taylor is singing for the Presidential hopeful. He kicked off a mini-support tour last night in his home state of North Carolina. It's a key battleground as the election is just 15 days away (Nov. 4). Taylor, 60,  was in Charlotte and Asheville yesterday and will be in Chapel Hill today. Two more shows are planned for Raleigh and Wilmington on Tomorrow. Taylor spokespeople say more concerts could happen before Election Day.

In 2004 the singer-songwriter legend sang for another Democratic Presidential hopeful, John Kerry.

On the weekend Obama got a surprise endorsement from Colin Powell, George Bush's former secretary of state and his lead in the polls seems firm yet close. The latest results of the Gallup daily tracking poll are Obama 51%, McCain 44% among likely voters

Expect things to heat up in the next two weeks as both McCain and Obama pull out all the stops to make as many friends as possible.  – by John Beaudin

James Taylor Gives Us More Covers
August 5, 2008 – Wel,l you can’t call James Taylor’s next project a stretch. The famous singer-songwriter is doing a covers album, a concept he’s touched on with almost all his previous CD’s. The new album simply titled, ‘Covers’ will be distributed on Starbuck’s Hear Music label.
Taylor had had a long string of hits with other people’s music going back to the early 70’s. One of his first was Carol King’s ‘You’ve Got a Friend,’ Marvin Gaye’s famous 'How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You),' the Jimmy Jones and Otis Blackwell classic ‘Handy Man’ and ‘Up on the Roof’ by Gerry Goffin and Carol King. This man knows how to reinterpret other people’s music.

The new album will feature a few tunes that will easily fit the Taylor sound including Jimmy Webb’s ‘Wichita Lineman’ which was a huge hit for Glen Campbell, “On Broadway” which gained new life thanks to George Benson changing the arrangement in 1978, also Taylor will remake Leonard Cohen’s ‘Suzanne.’

Taylor’s last album was the live package ‘One Man Band’ on Hear Music. His last studio album was 2002’s ‘October Road.’ The album will be out in September. - by John Beaudin
