Jane’s Addiction Caught Forgetting Lyrics
May 20, 2009 – Remember all those stories about Perry Farrell? His past is filled with groupies who wanted to say hello to his little friend. I don’t think the years of debauchery and drug abuse helped him corral any new brain cells. Case in point, Jane’s Addiction’s use of...are you ready for this? Teleprompters on their current tour with Nine Inch Nails!
Yep, Farrell has forgotten, at least, a few of his own lyrics but aren’t there only 4-5 albums in their discography? That’s not a lot of tunes to remember.
I know the die-hard fans will write me dirty, angry emails saying, “Quit picking on Perry you extremely handsome douche bag” but really if the band needs to use a teleprompter are they really ready to even be on tour?
Needless to say Perry Farrell has become a poster child for the ill effects of drug abuse so maybe those special “teleprompter shows” will be yet another reminder for the kiddies not to take drugs. – by John Beaudin |

Jane’s Addiction’s Perry Farrell Hurts Leg on Stage
May 11, 2009 – This has got to hurt. Jane’s Addiction’s lead singer Perry Farrell (pictured second from right) tore his calf muscle on stage last night. During the first song of the band’s show in Atlanta he took a misstep and the damage was done. He did finish the show though.
A band spokesman said Farrell was taken by ambulance to Atlanta Medical Center after the show.
Doctor’s ordered him to stay off the leg for a few days but the charismatic singer says “the show must go on.” He and the band still plan on doing their show in Austin, Texas tomorrow night.
The band is still touring with Nine Inch Nails. A few weeks back we reported that the internal turmoil in the band is alive and well but all members seemed dedicated to their current reunion. – by Kari Graham |

Trent Reznor Tries to Stop Jane’s Addiction Members from Killing Each Other
April 21, 2009 – Being a mediator is a tough gig. Unlike most arguments, instead of having one person coming at you, you have 2-3-4 or more. It’s a thankless job.
That’s exactly what, touring mates, Nine Inch Nails front-man, Trent Reznor is doing with Jane’s Addiction but is it working?
As Jane’s Addiction are gearing up for their first tour in 18 years with the original cast, singer Perry Farrell told Reuters that mediation, so far, has been unsuccessful but the band is still together. "I'm not going to tell you it's been all smooches and hugs, says Farrell, “But it shouldn't be because that would be a bore.”
The band has always had a reputation of being a stones throw away from imploding from the beginning and though Farrell has toured with guitarist Dave Navarro and drummer Steven Perkins over the year’s this time around original bassist Eric Avery is back in the line-up. It’s the return of Avery, who refused to play with them since their official 1991 break-up that seems to be stirring the pot. "I just talked to Eric man-to-man. We're different people, that's okay. He serves a different purpose, he's got a different frequency he operates on. I'm overjoyed that we're working together. I don't care that we butt heads as long as when we hit the stage we blast on people."
So, in comes Reznor, who is also producing some new tunes for the band, trying to fix things, "He did his best to be both producer and psychologist," Farrell said. "He was very respectful, trying to get out of the way and not overproduce. I wish honestly he would've produced a little more, but he was a little gun shy after seeing us explode on each other in the studio. He became the referee for a day and after that day I think he was done."
Farrell seems to feel a sense of duty to keep the original line-up of Jane’s Addiction together. In the age where classic acts like Journey (without Steve Perry) or Yes (without Jon Anderson), are regrouping, Farrell says the magic is about getting the real band in the same room, "Any time you get a chance to put the original members of a group together, (you should do it). Look at Pink Floyd. I consider Roger Waters to be the greatest live rock act for a festival today. He has a great guitar player, but it's not David Gilmour. You need the original members if you can have them. I love The Who, love Led Zeppelin, but nobody's the same when they're not original members, the people that wrote and recorded those songs and set their vibrations down into those tracks. That's why it's important to try to keep your crew together."

Dave Navarro’s Salivating: Could Ruin His Makeup
March 4, 2009 – Dave Navarro is either really pumped about reforming the original Jane’s Addiction or just needs cash for eyeliner. The guitarist says he’s also lovin’ his time with touring-mates Nine Inch Nails.
"I can't think of a better way to start up again than a tour with the original four members of Jane's and NINE INCH NAILS.
The original Jane's line up: After many years of different versions of Jane's Addiction, Eric Avery has re-claimed his position. We have had the honor of working with some great bass players over the years... Flea, Martyn Le Noble and Chris Chaney... but the Jane's sound was never complete without Eric. With Eric holding down the bottom, the Jane's rhythm section is once again complete. It's almost as if he and Perk live together symbiotically, to create a singular overwhelming sonic onslaught that ebbs and flows like a musical ocean. Perk and Avery not only bring out the best in each other, their ability to lock and weave with one another challenges and inspires me as a guitarist.
NIN/JA: Since our reformation, we have been spending a lot of time with Trent (Reznor) in the rehearsal studio and in the recording studio, working on new stuff, addressing some old stuff and more importantly, creating a friendship and working relationship. It's rare that touring partners have an opportunity to spend so much time together creatively before a tour. Regardless of the collaborative outcome our time with Trent has brought forth a new focus and sense of purpose that we plan to share with you on a nightly basis. NIN and Jane's are vastly different bands, for sure, but we have always had a connection as a result of our time together on Lolla One and various shows together. NIN/JA shows have always been 'events' more than anything. Back in the day, Jane's was winding down as NIN was taking off. Our musical lives crossed each other at a very important time in music. A time where artistry and live performance meant something more. A time when the corporate structures took notice of the value in what was happening, but hadn't yet destroyed it.
Touring with NIN is an invitation for us to re-capture that spirit that was at a time, inspiring, dangerous and emotionally compelling, as they have always maintained the same integrity that brought me to love music in the first place." -dave |

Jane’s Addiction Plan Another L.A. Reunion Show
Oct. 23. 2008 – For only the second time since their break-up in 1991, Jane’s Addiction is back with their original line-up for a show in L.A. The influential post-punk rock group will play 10 songs at the tiny La Cita bar with a capacity of 390, tomorrow. Tickets sold out in seconds at $5 a crack.
Though the group reunited in 1997, it wasn’t the real thing to fans without bassist Eric Avery. According to his blog, "We never know what the future has in store for us; especially with this band, but, at least right now Jane's Addiction has a future that one would have to call somewhat promising. We are a great band." Guitarist Dave Navarro had been as optimistic on his blogs as well.
The band has obviously been getting along since their show at the inaugural NME Awards in Los Angeles six months ago.
Jane's Addiction gained tons of attention after emerging from L.A.’s rock underground in the 80’s with flamboyant lead singer Perry Farrell who grabbed as much headlines from rumoured drug debauchery than singing classic hits like, ‘Been Caught Stealing’ and ‘Jane Says.’
Before the reunion show the original line-up played their last gig in Hawaii in 1991. Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea was one of many players brought in to replace Avery in 97. – by John Beaudin |
