A Disappointing Return for Sade
REVIEW - Sade – Soldier of Love
June 16, 2010 – There’s always been an understated value to everything that Sade does and sameness to her entire repertoire. That quality of old wine has served the singer/band well… until now. Unlike Norah Jones who has, at least, tried to mix-up-the-pot, Sade really needs to stop wearing the same dress to every party. MORE

A “Journey” Reunion Ain’t Gonna Happen!
November 4, 2011 - Whenever I see the words in print “Journey “and “Steve Perry” I wonder if this is going to be it, are we finally going to see a reunion or something? Well, let it be known that according to Steve Perry (former lead singer of Journey) that just ain’t gonna happen! Even with a new Journey package in stores now with “Greatest Hits Volume 2” and the song “Don’t Stop Believin” playing like a mantra in our ears?

In a phone chat about this project to The Associated Press Perry says,’  "It's like any emotional, committed relationship. At some point, they seem to all have a shelf life and bands are no exception."  He also admits that "Life has moved us all on in different places in our lives. They're doing what they're doing — they have been since '98. And I've been doing what I'm doing, which is living my life and having a personal life.”

Being out of the spotlight, Steve says that he is in a good space and does not totally rule out touring again, it just won’t be with Journey.  Well,  I guess this case is closed, but I won’t stop believin!- By Shannon Edwards

Update: At the 2011 Billboard Touring Awards on Nov 10 at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York Journey will receive the “Legend Of Live” Award. Guitarist Neal Schon will be there to pick up the honor.

How many of you follow Journey since Steve Perry left the band?  Who was your fav. lead singer of Journey? take a poll?

Pick Up the Phone, It’s Steve Perry!
October 25, 2011 - October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month and Steve Perry, formerly of Journey, is doing his part in giving back.  An auction right now on EBAY gives you the opportunity to chat with Steve for 15 minutes on the phone and receive autographed albums that are re-mastered to vinyl and personalized just for you by Steve himself!

All the proceeds will go to benefit Susan G Komen for the Cure, an organization dedicated to education and research about causes, treatments and the search for a cure for breast cancer.

This auction is currently getting a lot of buzz with the highest bid at over $ 10,000! What a great way to spread awareness, support a great cause and make all those Journey fans jealous as heck!

Let's recap - Current Journey guitarist Neil Schon is getting publicity by dating infamous white House crasher Michaele Salahi but Steve Perry continues his good deeds. Journey misses you Mr Perry!!! Gotta go now, my phone is ringing! Could be Stevie!

Has Neil Schon of Journey Lost his Freakin’ Mind?
October 25, 2011 – Ok this has to be a publicity stunt! Neil Schon, leader of the band Journey, seems to have professed his love for “Whitehouse Crasher/Publicity Hound” Michaele Salahi but is it real?

TMZ reported that Schon had just purchased Salahi a brand new Bentley convertible for $350,000. Of course every time the couple seems to have a satisfying bowel movement the cameras seem to be rolling.

Its also been reported, with clicking cameras all around that Schon just introduced Salahi to his family.

What do you think? Is this for real? Has Neil Schon lost his freakin’ mind? Does this tarnish Journey’s reputation? – by John Beaudin

Steve Perry Has Not Asked and Will Not Rejoin Journey
November 16, 2010 – I thought there was something fishy about the story, leaking last week, that Steve Perry (pictured second from right) had asked to rejoin Journey. Sure, the band could make a proper comeback with the legendary singer in the fold but as they say down south – that dog won’t hunt!

A spokesman for the singer says, “It’s just not true. The story came from London, the home of tabloids – they make up stories every day. Steve is enjoying his retirement.”

It appears the story started after The Daily Star used a quote from Journey lead guitarist Neil Schon, out of context. Schon said, “He’s no longer the lead singer – he walked out.” The paper suggested that Perry had asked to rejoin which he had not.

If Perry were to rejoin Journey it would be a case of Schon doing the asking and that doesn’t seem likely with new lead singer Arnel Pineda at the helm of the band. Schon seems completely oblivious to what seems to be a huge group of diehard Journey fans that would love Perry back in the band. Pineda is good but certainly not good enough to fill those shoes. - by John Beaudin

Journey will tour the UK with Foreigner and Styx in June:

04/06 Wembley Arena
05/06 Birmingham Arena
07/06 Newcastle Arena
08/06 Manchester Arena
09/06 Glasgow SECC

Journey Rejects Steve Perry's return as Lead Singer
November 15, 2010 – I'm a little suspicious of reports that Steve Perry wants to rejoin Journey. I'm even more suspect on hearing news that if it's true the band doesn't want him back. My first reaction was of shock, “Are they freakin' nuts,” I thought. Perry, easily one of the best singers in Rock history, put this band on the map. In fact, without him I doubt they would have been that relevant at all.

Perry left Journey in 1998 only to be replaced by Steve Augeri, then Jeff Scott Soto and finally in 2007 with Arnel Pineda, a Filipino YouTube star – none hold a candle to Perry. It's not uncommon for bands to replace lead singers with younger, better looking dudes who actually technically sing better but it's seldom real. As I’ve said many times I would never see Journey without Perry.

With Journey's “Don't Stop Believin'” gaining new life courtesy of The Sopranos and recently on TV's Glee, the band has new life even though the guy who is now singing the tune has no true history with it.

The tune has also topped the itunes downloads chart.

Last Wednesday Journey guitarist Neal Schon picked up the Marshall Classic Rock Roll Of Honours "Event Of The Year" award to honor the return of "Don't Stop Believin'" to the UK Top 10 and he had plenty to say about Perry wanting to rejoin Journey. Schon told Britain's Daily Star, "He seems to be enjoying the spotlight a little too much. The fact is he's no longer the lead singer. He walked out."

To be fair reunions are bigger with fans than they usually are with the rockers who sometimes liken their old band mates to ex-wife’s. Rik Emmett of Triumph asked me years ago “Would you like to tour with your ex-wife?” Realistically, I don't know how much bad blood there is between Perry and Journey and the band has just finished a new album with Pineda. If Perry came back how would they do this? Perry sings the old tunes and Pineda the new ones in concert. I doubt that would happen but I wish the band would consider a reunion. Perry will always be the main man. Again, it's not Journey without him.

Interestingly, the band will tour Europe with two other groups next year that have also lost their lead singers Foreigner and Styx. I would choose a gig with Lou Gramm (Foreigner's former lead singer), Dennis DeYoung and Perry anytime. - by John Beaudin

Journey Extends Summer Tour Dates but We Still Miss Steve Perry
August 3 , 2009 – In the summer of 1997 Steve Perry reunited as lead singer of journey but injured his hip and needed a replacement. Steve was thinking a hip replacement while the band was thinking of replacing him. That’s the easy version of Steve Perry not being in Journey. The complicated rendition probably includes lots of bad-blood that comes with success, alcohol, drugs and non-stop touring.

Though the band continues to draw huge crowds and their reputation has actually improved much of that comes from the fruits of their earlier work and that included Steve Perry and drummer Steve Smith. Is it Journey without them? Considering Perry sang all their big hits it’s questionable.

Steve Perry talked to journalist Mitch Lafon a few years ago and talked about the bands last real reunion in 1995. “I put a lot of effort in trying to put Journey back together for the ‘Trial by Fire’ era and I worked hard with those guys so that we would keep our original integrity and write some good music and we did. Then I had that hip problem and it crashed on me. I had to go have surgery. There were some mistakes made and they checked out a few singers and they got tired of sitting around and one thing lead to another and we split again...”

Losing the main front man of the band was tough especially when Perry was replaced by sound-alikes and in a few cases guys who actually looked like him. In came singer Steve Augeri formerly of Tyketto and Tall Stories. He was gone in 2006, the official reason was throat/vocal problems. He was replaced in 2006 with Jeff Scott Soto from Talisman but he only lasted a year. His replacement was hired Filipino singer Arnel Pineda. Guitarist Neal Schon actually discovered him while surfing on YouTube. Pineda is a great singer but he’s no Steve Perry.

In that interview with Lafon Perry talked about his frustration on the band never getting the respect they deserved. He had just worked on the release of Journey live DVD “Live in Houston – 1981 Escape Tour.” The whole experience of working on the DVD was painful for Perry considering her wasn’t in the band anymore.

“We were great together and then I'm dragged through the people who thought we weren't great and who used to belittle us in the press and I thought 'fuck them too'. How can that be fucked up? We were great! See you assholes... you know what I mean? We weren't fucked up – you used to tell us we were faceless and corporate and all these horrible things and all we were trying to do was keep our focus and play what we loved. Now, I'm looking back at it for the first time as a person in the audience... I'm not in the band and it's been years since I've been in the band. It's been years since I've been on that stage. I'm an older guy and this young kid up there on that stage believed in what he believed in and damned if it wasn't pretty good and I got emotional about it. I just felt vindicated. I really felt vindicated for my beliefs and my faith and my tenacity that I got such a bad rep for... it's just that I was NOT going to lay down. Betty Davis said “if you have a bad reputation – you must be doing something right.”

Journey with Pineda as lead vocalist just finished touring Europe and the band has just announced more North American dates starting in Bossier City on August 4th and winding down on Sept.30 in Oklahoma City, OK. Steve Perry please call home. – by John Beaudin
