Katy Perry Looks Ahead Cautiously     Bookmark and Share
May 29, 2009 - “The second record is really important to me because I think it shows whether I’m meant to do this, or I got lucky,” Katy Perry told Rolling Stone magazine.

In the music industry everyone has heard of the dreaded sophomore slump and Perry wants to do everything in her power to navigate away from that curse that’s hit so many young musicians.

The 24 year olds rise in the last 12 months was also huge courtesy of her hit “Hot N Cold” and the mega worldwide sensation “I Kissed a Girl.”

“Basically what I want to do is not alienate the audience that I have at all. I think some people feel like they have had success with one thing and one idea and one record and they want to pull a 180 and try a totally different thing.” That isn’t going to happen here, she said, “I definitely feel like that’s the wrong move. I feel like you just have to grow from it, you can branch off of it but keep the tree the same in some ways. Some people get full of themselves, and they think that anything they do is going to work or turn to gold or be the right move, and the reason why you’re here is because of the people that like your music and the fans, so you always should keep an ear open to what they’re saying.”

Perry plans to stay with her Pop feel and describes album No. 2 as sounding like ‘Love Fool’ by the Cardigans meets ‘Into the Groove’ by Madonna. Basically she doesn’t want to reinvent the wheel. Katy, that’s the last thing we’d expect from you. – by Chas Dordie

Katy Perry’s Baggage is Kinda Normal
May 14, 2009 – Everyone’s got stuff. Most of us carry our dirt on the outside but it’s the folks who think it’s all “under the hood” that are the problem.

Katy Perry believes in being transparent. She told UK’s Cosmopolitan magazine that she’s a little self-conscious, “One [of my insecurities] that I have acne scars, I’m self-conscious about that, so sometimes I wear too much makeup to cover them up. I got acne at the start of my career -– it was a stressful time.”

Let’s remember Perry is only 24, she has loads of time to make friends with denial.
She did tell the magazine that building her own family isn’t out of the question,
“I’m not in a rush [to get married], but last night I was thinking, ‘Is it wrong for me to want to marry soon and have that feeling?’… To me, marriage isn’t about bank accounts and houses; it’s about finding the one you can hitch your hip to and build on each other’s strengths,” she said.

“I don’t like being single. I live a fantastic life, full of magical things, and at the end of the day all I want to do is share it with someone. I’ll probably end up with someone who’s a bit older and a few steps ahead of me — I want someone I can learn from. It’s always been difficult [to find a boyfriend] because I’m so picky. And if I go to dinner with a guy, people automatically think we’re dating. And then when you do start dating it becomes a race to the altar.” – by John Beaudin

Katy Perry Drinking Problem
Oct. 15, 2008 – Looks like Katy Perry has been doing more than just kissing girls lately. The singer recently told Blender magazine that she has a drinking problem. She says while struggling to make it in music biz, booze was her main friend. "It was really difficult, drinking became a problem. It got out of control until I said, 'OK - back to work.' I know I'm speaking for someone, even if it is someone silly." She’s only 23 and already one of the biggest singers on the planet with her tune “I Kissed a Girl” easily the biggest hit of the year so far.

Perry was just named as host of the upcoming MTV Europe Music Awards, "I was so excited when I heard that I was nominated for two awards, but when I was asked to host the show I wet myself, Fergie-style!” she said, "Do they know what they are getting into? I just hope that I don't spill my cocktail!"

In the Blender interview she was very candid about her struggles of being in a business where alcohol is everywhere, and that getting nervous in a crowd without a drink-in-hand is difficult.

Katy Perry’s Mom Once Dated Jimi Hendrix
Oct. 10, 2008 – As Katy Perry’s parent ask ‘Whatever happened to our little girl,” Katy has her own sermon locked and loaded that seems to be calling her parents hypocrites – sort of. Perry who rose to fame with one of the most infectious tunes of the year, 'I Kissed a Girl’ says her parents were hippies in the 60’s who experimented and sold drugs. Hell, she even says her mom dated Jimi Hendrix, “He just came up to her in a club and picked her out.” Both her parents are strict Christian preachers in California but Perry says what she’s doing now has nothing on their youth. She claims her father, for instance sold drugs and was a close friend with LSD guru Timothy Leary. The 23 year old singer adds that his specialty was a drug named after the Beatles tune ‘Strawberry Fields.’  She says, “My dad would have died from one tab of Strawberry Fields too many if he hadn’t found God.” To quote the church lady – “isn’t that special.” Katy’s mother has gone on record as hating ‘I kissed a Girl,’ going as far as calling the tune “shameful and disgusting” for promoting homosexuality. Word is, her mother prays when she hears the song or maybe she’s just having flashback of Jimi. – by John Beaudin
