Killers Brandon Flowers Very Upset over Poor Sales
July 23, 2009 – The Killers lead singer Brandon Flowers has gone on record several times lamenting the fact that his band sells much more in the UK than in his home country of the U.S. Now he has more to bitch about. Flowers is upset that the bands latest album “Day and Age” sold a little more than half of what their last. “Sam’s Town” did. He’s also pissed that “Sam’s Town sold 2.5 million less than their debut album “Hot Fuss.”

He said: "How much does it bother me? I think about it every day. I've thought about it today. I've already talked about it today with my press officer."  Flower adds, "If you look at us and you hear it, it's almost too good to be true. We have good songs, it sounds perfect, it sounds contrived, but it wasn't."

Wasn’t Flowers the brainiac who blamed his band’s lack of world domination on Led Zeppelin a few months ago? I’m sure that scored the group some points on that one. He said too many people are into classic rock and not open to new sounds. No, maybe they are buying Coldplay albums instead. – by John Beaudin

Where's My Teeth?: Killers Blame Led Zeppelin and Nirvana for Lack of World Domination
May 1, 2009 – Brandon Flowers of the Killers figures his band would be much bigger if Led Zeppelin and Nirvana never existed. In fact he told NME.com he’d like to knock both bands “off their pedestals.” Yeah, good luck with that. Let’s see Brandon, Zeppelin had changed the face of Rock music forever and had broken up long before you were even born.

Flowers goes on to say he appreciates his groups huge success in the UK but feels a need to overcome listeners prejudices in his home country of the U.S.

"We’ve been embraced in Britain in a way that I’ll never understand, and it’s such a wonderful thing," he said. "But over here [in America], people are still so obsessed with Led Zeppelin and Nirvana, those sorts of bands, that nobody else is allowed [to grow]."

Flowers, who is the lead singer and chief songwriter of the Las Vegas band, said, "It’s not just us; there are a lot of great bands that have been held down or confined by the influence of these people that we’ve put up on pedestals. I’m tired of it, you know? I just want to knock them all off! And people don’t like that attitude. It’s almost like they don’t believe that it’s possible that anybody else can be the real deal.”

It looks like Brandon is a little anxious considering the Killers only formed in 2002 and really, how does Led Zeppelin and Nirvana have anything to do with his band's success? Is he sniffing donkey dung or is he just that petty? Let's hope these quotes were taken out of context. Last time I checked Zeppelin and Nirvana had a right to celebrate their glory without someone else pulling a Hannah Montana jealousy rant.

He also said, "It doesn’t matter how many great songs we write or how many great shows we play. But we’re slowly chipping away at it. With this last album [Day And Age], there’s been a noticeable shift but we’re still nowhere near where we are in Europe."

Let’s check in with the envious Brandon in about 22 years shall we? He'll be 50 by then and that's about the time it'll take for his ego to stop driving blindly up his own ass. – by John Beaudin
