Historic 'The Plant Studios' in Danger of Being Destroyed
Nov. 26, 2008 – The recording studio where everyone from the Grateful Dead to Metallica has recorded is in danger of being torn down. The famous The Plant Studios in Sausalito, California could be lost, “Our former landlord defaulted on his loan,” says Mari Tamburo, from the studio. “The bank has foreclosed on the property. This historic structure is now in danger of being sold to a developer and removed from our cultural landscape forever!”

The studio business first opened as The Record Plant, in Sausalito in 1972 and since then Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Wonder, Jefferson Airplane, Van Morrison, Aretha Franklin, Doobie Brothers, Santana and a host of others have recorded there.

In an exclusive interview with Rock History Book, Tamburo said there is hope to save the historical music landmark.

Here’s what she said;

“A group of concerned creative citizens, many of them former employees of The Plant and the Record Plant, have formed a non-profit and come together in a preservation effort - Our goal is to preserve the building and cultivate a sustainable music community by creatively repurposing it as THE ARTSBORETUM - a green, music arts incubator. Our vision is a convergence of music, art and science (clean technology) that will support our independent artist community and boost our economy.

We are hoping to raise at least $50,000 by the year's end - in total, we need to raise $5 million dollars to bring this project from vision to reality.

They can donate from our website - http://www.plantstudios.org - and
also join our cause and donate on Facebook -
http://apps.facebook.com/causes/123425?m=f1429162&recruiter_id=19403287

Given the many millions of people who have been touched by the music that was created in this location - if only a fraction of them each donated $10, we will be able to preserve this building's legacy and utilize it for its best purpose: to inspire and educate future generations to live a life that truly ROCKS.

Any help that you may offer is greatly appreciated. This building has so much history - to lose it would be like cutting out the heart and soul of our music history.
